Cosplay for Kids

I could spend every month just making costumes and photographing them. This October has been the best I've ever had. I love saying "yes" to my kids. It's the best part of having talents and creativity - to spoil them with their dreams! Here are my adorable kids in their Halloween finery.
Cinderella's mice friends worked very hard to make this dress for the ball. In the movie it gets torn apart by her jealous stepsisters. Fortunately, we all get along swimmingly in our family, so Cinderella was able to enjoy her rodent-sewn gown for longer than a few moments.

Strong, fiercely independent, and fully capable of taking care of herself: Catwoman has always been one of my favorite comic book characters. My eldest was going to be a video game character, and at the last minute changed her mind and her costume. It was so much easier to pull off anyway, I had no objections. We argued over the boots, but she won in the end with the argument, "They will just photograph better!" Darn - she knows me too well.

If you suggest he is Zelda, you may get an earful about the entire Hyrule legends and lore. He is in fact Link, the hero of all the Legend of Zelda games - specifically from The Twilight Princess. His sword and shield are his Christmas presents, but we let him use them for Halloween (just like last year!) He is half-way between epic and adorable. I don't know how many costumes he'll still want, as he'll be going into Middle School next year. I had to put everything into what might be his last one.

How cute is the baby?

This little charmer is the firstborn of one of my most loyal clients and friends, and I am always humbled by their continued faith in me. One of the few who followed me through my journey last year and back again. I will never forget it, guys.

This cute!
Here is one of the anniversary portraits I did for them five years ago:  photo IMG_9214-1.jpg
And here is their little family now: photo IMG_9172.jpg Can't you just imagine the next one five years from now? Cool, huh! I totally geek out over stuff like this.
Oh, and here's some more of those amazing smiles and dimples.

Autumn Beauties

Hey there. I'm loving October. I have done more fun fall sessions this month than any other October in the past, and I'm feeling really content in my decision to take my business back into my home. I have a lot of posts I want to share, but as November approaches, I know things will slow down a bit, so I'm kind of saving some for then.

These gorgeous girls belong to my longest-time best friend. I've photographed them many times, but they seemed so much older this time. I keep seeing time flash by so fast in front of my camera! K, it will be a blink before we are doing their wedding portraits! Crazy how fast it all goes.

PPA Super Monday class

I had the great privilege of teaching a class for the PPA yesterday. We had a superb day with lots of laughs and sharing from everyone. The end of our class was a location session with one of my photographer friends, Amber. She brought her fun boys for our models, and I for one was just so thrilled it didn't rain on us! I am not very good with words, but I honestly want to express my deep and sincere appreciation for everyone who came and participated. I have never felt like a strong teacher, and your friendship and support make me feel very loved and very humble. I am so lucky to be surrounded by a community of professionals that are generous, talented, and just fun to be around. Blessings to you all!

I Got Your Back

One of the hardest things as a photographer (in my experienced opinion) is to try taking your own family portraits. Yes, you can set it up on a tripod, and use a remote, or have someone else click the button. Unfortunately, there is something about being able to scan the expressions, composition, and posing in a split second before pushing that button that is lost when you aren't looking at the scene. The last time I did my own family portrait, I vowed it would be the last. That's why I consider it the highest honor to be able to create for another fellow photographer. Not only are they trusting me with their memories, but there is a certain level of not letting them down that I feel from a personal side as well. This family belongs to my friend Liz who is a phenomenal wedding photographer. She suffers from the same fate I do, being that we are never in our own photographs. I was thrilled to give her the gift of a family portrait, and I hope she knows that it was a sheer delight to play with her kids for a couple hours.  Thank you, Liz, for your faith and confidence. You'll never know how much it meant to me.

The best plans gone awry - or how to succeed with plan C and attractive people.

So I spent all of last week finding the best canyon leaf colors and locations for portraits. Then it snowed and got very, very cold. Grrr… So this great Mom and I made a new plan for a different canyon. And 15 minutes before we were supposed to meet there, we discovered the canyon was closed. Grrr… So, onto our THIRD plan of the week, they decided to forego lots of fall color for warmer temps and a closer location. So we headed over to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple, and I was thrilled to be able to shed my coat and work with this outstanding family. We actually ended up having a great time, and I think the images turned out great. But the best part of the whole experience was just hanging out with this family again. They used to be our neighbors, and it's been about 4 or 5 years since I last photographed their then-missionary who is now a newlywed. Now they have another missionary going out and their baby is a Senior in High School. Time flies! It was a great morning, and I thank you sincerely, K, for the memories. photo IMG_7105.jpg photo IMG_7201B.jpg photo IMG_7225.jpg photo IMG_7270.jpg photo IMG_7306.jpg photo IMG_7148.jpg
