Treading Water (Utah Dance Photography)

If it seems like I've disappeared, it's because I have - under a gigantic ocean of dance portraits! Last year I had one large dance studio with around 230 students, and one small studio of about 30. This year, I have photographed over 500 dance students, and I'm just over half done. If you know anything about KD Portraits, you know that this whole operation is run by ONE woman - me. I feel like I'm treading water, keeping up on everything, but it is an enormous effort to stay there. I'll get a brief break this weekend and then it'll be another wave of fun next week. If you see me go under, please send a dinghy.

Today I had the most fun photographing my youngest daughter's first dance class. Their studio picked a "Circus" theme this year, and when I found this gorgeous horse in the classifieds, I had to buy it for the occasion. My kids have named her "Sally" and she normally sits in our dining room, ready in case anyone needs a quick ride accompanied by a pipe-organ version of "Over the Waves." I love how gloriously colorful her set turned out. I LOVE bright color!

The Children's Ballet Theater "Wizard of Oz" portraits are ready!

The Children's Ballet Theater "Wizard of Oz" portraits are ready!! Follow this link and enter the code "CBTWOZ" (all caps) to enter the galleries. If the link doesn't work, just go to the home page of my main website and click "clients" in the upper right corner. There are hundreds of live and formal portraits, so allow yourself some time to look through everything. Don't forget to use the code "CBT10" at checkout to receive 10% off your entire order if placed by May 22. If you have any questions, please click the "contact" button on the home page of the main site to send an email, or email "kris@kdportraits.com."

If you pre-ordered portraits, your package is already being processed, and you don't need to worry about doing anything online, unless you want to order photographs of your dancer in a second costume or any of the fantastic live performance photos (which you really need to look through even if you aren't ordering. They are so much fun!)

This was an amazing production, with some very talented dancers, directors, choreographers, and volunteers running together perfectly. I was so impressed with how professional these young dancers are, and what a tight ship the Children's Ballet Theater keeps in putting on a production of this size. I also want to give a very special thanks to Emily who was better than a clone of myself, and who did the majority of the live performance photographs. Really, girl, this couldn't have happened without you. Thanks again.

And the winner is....

Congratulations, Shauna C! You are the winner of the new website comment contest. Your fabulous prize is an adorable 3x3 mini accordian brag book. Clients have been going crazy for this new product. Call me to arrange which portraits you would like in it. Thanks everyone for spreading the news and leaving comments on the new website. It still has some unfinished elements that I will hopefully get finished after dance season. Check back often.

So Glad it's May! (Salt Lake Senior Portraits)

One wedding, one funeral, two birthdays, four competition prints, and over five hundred dance students later, I am finally not just a little glad that April is over. What a crazy month! I felt like life had settled into the normal routine again today, and was actually quite thrilled to be creating senior portraits for this good looking guy. Thanks, J&A, for a really great hour this evening! I wish you the best of luck in the coming months and beyond.
