Fearless 2.0 (Utah Family Photography)

Just the second half of the S family's portraits. Sorry, B, but I'm not going to type much for you. The pictures speak for themselves, I think. Like I said, H's best session to date. Thanks and hugs.

Seniors and Spacemen (Utah Senior Portraits, Utah Child Photography)

I didn't have time to throw together a Halloween event this year, so this may be the luckiest kid around, since he alone gets awesome costume portraits. How fun is this costume? And lets talk about his sister who is a Senior this year: BABE! I know I'm not real eloquent right now.... bear with me as I'm trying to post/process like a mad woman.

By the way, I just decided right now that if you want portraits of your kid(s) in their Halloween costumes AFTER the 31st, I will do location costume sessions for only $10 (throw in as many kids as you want, regular print prices apply) through November 15th. The only reason I'm doing this is because I know how much effort goes into those costumes, and if anything deserves a professional portrait, those kids do. And I happen to LOVE kids in costumes... My kids' will be posted sometime before Christmas, I hope.

Kodak Gallery Awards and other IPPA awards

Well, I'm still trying to frantically recover from missing 4 days of work due to the IPPA annual convention and print competition. I know there are several of you out there waiting to hear how I did, so I thought I'd post my results for you. Here are each of my entries, and what they won.

"Meet me in the Orchard at Dawn" Kodak Gallery Award: also second place wedding, Regional level and second place album, State Level.

"Threads of the Past" Kodak Gallery Award: also, first place Pictoral, State Level

"Lead, Follow, or Get out of the Way" first place Photojournalism, State Level: second place Commercial, Regional Level.

"Splendor in the Grass" No awards.

The thing I consider the most satisfying, however, is the award I almost won. The photographer with the highest-scoring print case received Regional and State Photographer of the Year. The winner, Ted York, scored 331. My print case scored 330 points... So close! Congrats to Ted, though, as he is one of the nicest people I know, and totally deserves such a fitting title. Check out his work here. I did qualify for the Court of Honor, which consists of the top 5 Master Photographers, and top 5 General Photographers in the Intermountain Region.

Sweet Light, Sweet Family (Utah Family Photography)

There is about a 10-minute stretch of day that is known in the photography world as "sweet light." This is right as the sun has gone down, and the entire sky becomes a gigantic soft-box, and the light becomes so beautiful that you don't need any reflectors, flash, etc. Just those last rays and a gorgeous family, and Presto! Perfect portraits. It is so much fun hanging out with these fine folks, and I'm always very humbled by their loyalty and kind words. I love you guys!

Fearless (Utah Child Photography)

Here's the first few images from a double session with this cute kid. He was a crazy man at the skate park! It's no secret to Little H's parents that he does not like to have his photo taken. We've had several sessions with him when we just didn't get anything at all. This little warm-up session in the park worked wonders for the "real" portrait session that we did after feeding him. It has me rethinking the whole portrait session thing with kids. Some kids take a long time to trust a stranger who comes at them with this huge camera and crazy giraffe puppet that bites their mom's nose. Has anyone out there had a bad portrait experience that a little warm-up session may have helped?

Flying Pink People Eater

I've neglected posting my own family's stuff on the blog for a while, so I thought I'd hurry and post this awesome series of K3 at the Scarecrow Festival this year. It was her first performance on stage, and I didn't know how she would handle it. I didn't have anything to worry about - she LOVED being the center of attention and especially the applause.

Family Fun (Utah Family Photography)

A quick preview for the J family. They have the most amazing yard, and check out that gorgeous pout! Man, I love those lips! We had a great morning filled with sausages, flowers, and tickle wars. Everyone who is waiting for their preview images or blog peeks, please be patient - I'm plowing through all my fall sessions, and it's just taking some time. Thanks!

Art Appreciation

Every once in a while I find photography that is just nothing short of brilliant. This is a link my sister sent me today, and I spent over an hour looking at all his stuff. Amazing, and so entertaining! Check out his Stormtroopers 365 gallery: http://www.flickr.com/photos/st3f4n/sets/72157616350171741/

Thank you, Nature (Utah Family Photography)

I've been praying that the weather would hold out just until I had all my fall-leaf sessions done. Miraculously, this year, I didn't have to reschedule one session due to weather. I'd just like to thank Mother Nature for that little gift.

I had a great time getting to know the O family this weekend. We did everything from a family portrait, to fun toddler portraits, to big bro's missionary portraits, and more. Little S just melted my heart with his hugs, and his asking me to kiss his hands... What a little charmer, and now he's my new best friend. I can tell that he is the center of attention whenever the whole family is together, and for good reason. I'll see you guys Tuesday!

Autumn Love (Utah Wedding Photography)

Just a couple more images from our session on Friday night. I could have posted a ton more, but I need to keep some surprises for when you see them in the studio! I'll have them ready, I think, by early next week. I'll call you when they are! Kris

A Second Chance (Utah Wedding Photography)

This gorgeous couple was married two years ago, and unfortunately, didn't have the budget then to hire a professional photographer for their wedding day. Since they just had their two-year anniversary, they decided to treat themselves to a portrait session in their wedding attire as a gift to themselves. I can't even begin to tell you how emotional I got watching them together, and how hard it was for me to edit this session. I literally teared up while sorting through the images because of how much love these two have for each other, and how much faith they have in me. Man, I love you guys!

This was B's bridal portrait (and my first blog post!) for which we wanted to create a companion image of the both of them together. I have always loved this image, but I gotta say, I love the one of you two together even more.

I'm only about 1/3 through the session, and I'm sure I will want to post a few more images later. Keep checking back!

Relief

You know how at the end of the Return of the King, after the ring is destroyed and Frodo and Sam are running out of the exploding volcano, surrounded by lava and fire bombs, Frodo turns to Sam, the only emotion on his face showing complete relief and peace after being freed from that awful, accursed burden and says, "IT'S GONE! The ring is GONE!"....

...I just turned in my print case for the Regional Print Competition next week. I hear ya loud and clear, Frodo, my friend.

Fall Family Portraits (Utah Family Photography)

If you haven't been for a drive up the canyons yet this year, I advise you to pencil in an appointment on your calendar soon. It was absolutely breath-taking up there this afternoon. I had such a great time with these patient and easy-going people, around whom (for some reason) I can totally be myself. I'm serious, D&S, we need to hang out some time.
