Sometimes a Girl's just got to Paint (Utah Child Photography)

I've been blue lately - with no good reason why. I think it has mostly to do with it being January, and spring is still so far away. I'm not a winter girl. Anyway, this week I was suddenly overwhelmed with the urge to paint some new backdrops for my studio. It really helped purge some of the negative emotions I've been dealing with, and I am so giddy about the result I may do a few more. I am now officially PINK instead of blue, and that is just what I needed.

By the way, sometimes my best model just has to dance...

Cheeky Little Girl (Utah Newborn Photography)

This session was about a month ago, and I apologize, M for not posting it until now. Man, I love those cheeks! I can't wait to finish big bro's album, and start hers! I love your kids.

I am working on a new website, and a wedding album, and it seems like I have no additional time for posting. I am also working on some great new backdrops for the studio, and I am going to need models for some personal projects coming up. In other words, the pot is a-stewing, so stay tuned for some really great things coming up!

Hugs and Kisses Event 2010

Hooray, it's almost Valentine's Day! I love Valentine's day for one reason: cute cards! I always send out a Valentine card to my family members, which may seem a little redundant because I just sent Christmas cards less than a month ago, but I always feel a little off-the-hook on my Valentines. It's a chance for me to just do something fun, and not have to worry about meeting a certain image, or updating everyone on my life. It's just a chance to say, "I love you!" Here is my Valentine from last year:

This was a 4x5 accordian-folded card on metallic paper. It was GORGEOUS! Can you tell I had a really hard time editting images of my kids?

Anyway, I would like to invite you to attend my Hugs and Kisses event for 2010. I'm doing it a little different from last year, in that there will not be a "Valentine Theme" set. Wear whatever you'd like - red, pink, black or chartreuse. I am offering a mini studio session and 50 Valentine bookmarks for $59. This is a savings of over $115! The bookmarks can either be all from the same design, or 25 each of two different designs. These full-color, double sided bookmarks make the most amazing Valentines for your kids to pass out at school and to their friends. I promise nobody else will be handing out anything this charming. The event runs from January 25 to the 30th, and limited session times are available. Hugs and Kisses was very popular last year, so I suggest you call immediately to reserve your appointment. (801) 556-1661 or email kris@kdportraits.com

If you would rather have a traditional Valentine with envelope, I will also be offering 25-4x5 Valentine postcards with a mini portrait session for $59. There will be two completely new styles to choose from, but here is an example of last year's. The cards are full color on both sides, and include envelopes. This is the perfect opportunity to send a shout out if you didn't have the time or desire to do a Christmas card.

Nashville Shenanigans

What do you get when you mix 9 photographers, 4 point-n-shoot cameras, 3 days of intensive photographic study, and one Irish Pub?

And finally,

I just returned from Imaging USA. It is the largest national photography convention out there, and I am starting to realize that this is not an optional event for me. This is only the second time I've attended, but the knowledge, ideas, and networking that I get out of the experience are so valuable for my business and art! If there are any photographers out there reading this who haven't attended Imaging USA before, I implore you to consider attending in San Antonio next year. The trade show alone is worth the price of admission. It's Christmas in January! Here are some of my favorite highlights this year...

Jerry Ghionis - Bringing Sexy back!
Bry Cox - creating your own problems
Andrew Jenkins - speed shooting and easy cheese
"It's because I love you!"
Judy and Judd....
Simone's exquisite art
CPQ's calendars
Nostril shots
Popcorn flavored ice-cream
The Fromagerie - 75% butter-fat cheese
Seeing my first Loan Print hang with the other Loan Prints...

...and of course the acupuncture machine!

Gems of the stage (Utah Dance Photography)

I'm back in the land of the bloggers! I know it's been way too long, but I had to take some time off to recuperate from the holiday season. Here is an extraordinarily fun session I did at the beginning of December. The Children's Ballet Theater does a holiday performance called "Molly Mouse's Sugar Plum Debut." It is an original production with exclusive hand-made sets, costumes, and original choreography. The most unusual thing about the production are these wonderful hand-crafted mouse heads that every dancer wears with his/her costume. They are not easy to see out of, so the performers have to know their parts extremely well. We did photograph the dancers without their "heads" on, but I had to share some of these amazing costumes in their complete forms.
