Goodbye, Dance Season (Utah Dance Photography)

Yes, it's 3:30 am, but I finally got through processing and finishing and sending to the lab all my remaining dance portraits (so far!) There is still time to order from either The Children's Ballet Theater "The Wizard of Oz" (the gallery expires on THIS THURSDAY, the 1st), or "A Bug's Ball" (the gallery expires on July 24) or from Wasatch Arts Center (the 10% discount code of WAC10 expires on July 3, the gallery will be open until August 1.) Please get your orders in ASAP as the galleries can not be extended.

As promised, here are some more images from Wasatch Arts Center portrait and performance day. This is the third year I've photographed these dancers, and I feel so attached to them all! These are "my" dancers!

Masquerade! (Utah Event Photography)

This was the most awesome birthday party I've ever been to! Sweet Sixteen for Ms. T, and it was one rockin night full of amazing food, friends, and masks galore. My favorite part of the night: "Thriller" line dance.

I have to give some special props to the "King of the Light Stick," my fabulous husband. He was the best assistant I've ever had, and I hope to be able to talk him into doing it more often. As I told you before, Luv, I had more fun shooting this event with you than if we'd just been there as guests. It was perfect!

Long over-due post (Utah Family Photography)

I am trying to catch up on some of my non-dance portrait posting. This was a delightful family portrait session that I did back in May, when Mother Nature was still trying to decide between winter and spring. We had a gorgeous clear day with no wind, which was pretty unusual that week. You guys were all wonderful to work with, and your final prints will be ready soon!

After the main event, we did a little mini Senior Portrait session with Miss J. She was so confident in herself, and such a knock-out (yes, I'm a little biased toward red-heads)! I may be calling you, J, for some modeling work. Thanks for these fun images.

Today I got the results from this year's PPA International Print competition. Completely knocking me off my rocker (ask Robin - I seriously couldn't get emotions under control for about 10 minutes while she was trying to congratulate me over the phone) - I qualified to win the Diamond Level Photographer of the Year award by placing all four of my images in the PPA Loan Collection. Last year there were only 8 photographers in the world-wide competition to win this award. This year I think I counted 7 of us that qualified... but my count could be off by a few. Either way, this is really an amazing award, and I am still reeling from the shock of it all. I won't officially get the award until Imaging USA in San Antonio in January, when I will also get my Masters of Photography degree. And who knows, maybe this is all a dream, or maybe there was a glitch somewhere, and I really won't get it.... yeah, that sounds more like reality. Anyway, here are my winning images:

"The Force is Strong in My Family"

"Lead, Follow, or Get Out of the Way"

"Threads of Time"

"Meet Me in the Orchard at Dawn" (Album)

Why I started doing dance photography...

If you don't know already, this is my oldest daughter who was born with dancing feet. These are all her own choreographed moves that were not prompted at all by me:

Thanks so much to Heather who did all my Black & White head-shots for WAC this year including the gorgeous image of my girl above. Dad and Nange, I can totally see your side of the family in her face here! I am sorting and processing like mad... stay tuned for more from Wasatch Arts Center coming soon.

Cute as a Bug (Utah Dance Photography)

I have just posted the images from the Children's Ballet Theatre "A Bug's Ball" performance, and am ready to start taking orders. Follow this link and enter the code "CBTBUGS" (all caps) to enter the online galleries. If the link doesn't work, go to the main website (www.kdportraits.com) and click on "clients" in the top right corner of the home page. Place your order by June 21 to receive 10% off your entire order! (You must use the code "BUGS10" to activate the discount upon check-out.) Don't forget there are many galleries - use the tiny black navigational arrows to view all of them. As always, you can call me or email me if you have any questions about the ordering process!

Thanks again so much to Emily for your (as always) stellar work on the live shots.

Had a great vacation in Mesa with my family! We stopped by the grand canyon on the way home because the kids have never seen it. I had to post this image just because it makes me laugh how much like a tourist I become when I'm behind a camera on vacation. In fact, there were about 25 people right on the point of the south rim, and I had to elbow my way past everyone to get take the exact same photo that everyone else there was taking. You can almost hear me saying, "Ok, kids, go stand over there by your dad! Look right here! I said LOOK HERE! Ok, fine, don't look! Son, stop acting like you're falling off the Grand Canyon and just hold still. Fine, don't hold still. Ok, ready, one, two... wait, let this nice family from Japan walk by first. Ok, now everyone look here! Look at me! Fine, don't look... one, two, three!" *click* That's right, I'm a professional.
