Nothing but Fun (Utah Wedding Photography)

J + J = Never being bored again (at least for me while I'm creating portraits of them!) I got in my van when we were done, and was a little shocked that we'd been going for three hours! You guys are great, and I can't wait to do more this Friday!

Family Cement (Utah Family Photography)

There is something about having your portrait done as a family that kind of cements you together. Something about the way standing there next to each other says, "This is US. We belong together." Even if everyone isn't smiling or in the best mood (ehem, V) - you are in essence pledging your loyalty to the people next to you. I love you guys! I think all the spiders, bugs, and salt were worth it!

Baby Love (Utah Newborn Photography)

I am a bit disillusioned with newborn photography right now. I know the big thing is to do crazy physically impossible poses in tons of different hats, props, baskets, etc... Most of it I feel is unnatural and even dangerous-looking. I also feel like a person's portraits ought to have personal meaning to them, including the props in them. It's just my opinion, though, and I know everyone has a different style. Anyway, I was so fortunate to take the first professional portraits of this little angel, and my favorite images are those where she is being loved by those in her family - cuddled, protected, kissed. Thanks so much, M, for having the trust in me to capture these images, and allowing me a sweet glimpse into your family's love.

New Family (Utah Lifestyle Portraits)

There is nothing quite like photographing a couple's wedding, and then their new family. This Dad is completely smitten with his new boy, and this Mom has filled in the role of Motherhood with such ease and grace, I can't believe she was ever worried about it. You two are my other family, and I am so in love with my new little "nephew". Seriously, thank you so much for everything.

Trash the Dress (Utah Professional Photography)

I did my first Trash the Dress session this summer, and coincidentally, Professional Photographer Magazine just published an article about this type of session. The article dispelled myths about Trash the Dress
sessions, mainly that you have to trash the dress you were married in. The dress featured above was purchased from a second hand store for $15 - and we had so much fun getting it wet and dirty! Our little beach excursion took place on my birthday weekend, and I gotta say it was one of the best birthdays I've ever had. We spent all morning relaxing with the kids, the evening getting crazy with the "High Beam" reflector, and after sunset at the Quick N' Tasty with milkshakes and onion rings. What do you mean this is a job?

Loosening my Grip (Utah Family Photography)

I love it when people know what they want. When this delightful mom contacted me, and we were discussing her garden portrait session, she said she really wanted some candid, lifestyle images of her kids just being kids. I tend to shoot really tight and perfectionist, so I had to mentally concentrate on loosening my style a bit, and letting moments happen. Granted, the first image here is very indicative of the classic, enduring style that I love. However, I think we created something really special in those fun, un-rehearsed moments too. Too many good ones to choose from, I know! Hope this helps, B family!

Leading Ladies (Utah Family Photography)

I've been in the garden all week, and I gotta say, I am totally addicted to shooting there. SO easy, so convenient, such beautiful light! I feel so spoiled to have this amazing location. These lovely ladies came in such pretty dresses, and brought some amazing eyes! I was so glad we did a separate shot of mom alone - when was the last time you had your own portrait created? Beauties, all of them! Thanks so much, Ms. B!

Smiles aren't always the goal (Utah Child Photographer)

These cute kids came to the garden earlier this week for the Back to School Garden event. Their mom really knows how to dress her kids for portraits! I love how elegant yet simple their outfits are. I did get some great smiles from all three of these cherubs, but I wanted to post some of their non-smiling expressions as they were some of my favorite. I love the range of emotion in their little faces! Thanks so much A, for coming down to my garden and for allowing me a few sweet minutes with your adorable children!

And, yes, one with precious smiles, too!
