Boudoir Photography - Solutions to your fears

I love boudoir photography. I feel like giving a woman the gift of feeling beautiful is one of my sacred responsibilities as a professional photographer. I have noticed, however, that many women would like to give their husbands a gift of intimate portraits but there are several misconceptions holding them back. I'd like to bust a couple of myths about boudoir photography:

Myth #1 - "I am too fat to have any kind of portrait done - let alone images of my body!!"
Let's face it - this is probably the number one concern - and it's also the one that makes me the most angry. Without going into long rantings and ravings about our society's distorted conception of beauty, let me just say that every woman is beautiful no matter what the scale says. That being said, because I am a professional, I know how to light and pose you to make you look your very best. I've been studying light, shade and contour for over 12 years and I will make you feel beautiful, guaranteed.

Myth #2 - You have to wear lingerie in a boudoir portrait session.
WRONG! You can wear what ever you are comfortable in. I once had an awesome gal wear snow pants to her boudoir session because her husband thought her derrière looked hot in them. I've had woman wear their husband's button up dress shirts. There is no reason to reveal more than you are comfortable revealing. In fact, I often feel like less skin is more and you should leave plenty to the imagination. If you have a rockin pair of sweats that make you feel like Sunday afternoon - that is what you should wear!

Myth #3 - A boudoir portrait session will be very awkward.
Again, I am a professional, and will treat you with respect and sensitivity. We can do the session in your home where you are comfortable, or in my home studio if you need to get away from anyone particular. I would LOVE to do a boudoir session in a hotel room. The session will be fun, relaxed and make you feel like a million bucks.

Myth #4 - What on earth am I going to do with these portraits?? I'm not hanging one in my house!
I totally get this concern, but I have come up with all kinds of small, intimate products that can easily be stashed in the special drawer at home, hubby's glove compartment, or in a desk drawer at the office. A slideshow DVD would be a great way to start an evening after the kids have gone to bed! Call me for particulars about boudoir products - I have lots of great ideas.

If you would like to have me create an amazing gift for your Valentine this year, I need to book your portrait session by the 5th of February, and yes, I will fit you in! I am not charging any session fees for boudoir portrait sessions, all I ask is a $100 deposit towards your portrait order. Can't make it this week? How about a Gift Card for your Valentine, and you BOTH come to the session! Those would be portraits you could cherish as a couple forever. Let me hear your concerns, your questions, and your ideas! - Kris

Imaging USA and the Awards Ceremonies

I finally got some images ready from Imaging USA and the two awards ceremonies that I attended in San Antonio this year. There are a bunch more posted on Facebook, so if you want see more, friend me there.

This is me being recognized with the other Diamond Level Photographers of the Year. Out of thousands of word-wide entrants, there were only 7 of us who achieved this honor (someone is missing in the photo.) I was totally star-struck by the people on this stage. Afterwards, we were recognized with the Grand Imaging Award winners.

My amazing husband presented me with 50 diamonds to commemorate the event. I'm telling you, he is so awesome they should just define the word with his name. He spent the whole week with me in San Antonio, making this the best convention I've ever attended. He will need to watch out, or I just might have to take him every year.

The next night, I received my Master of Photography degree. My dear friend Allison (who incidentally is the only woman in the state of Utah who has her Master, her Craftsman, and her Certified Professional Photography certification) was my sponsor, meaning she was the one to put the Master ribbon around my neck. Our other dear friend Heather has some awesome video of the actual ceremony, and I'll post it if I can figure that out too. These are my girls, my sounding boards, and my co-plotters of evil plans... I love you guys.

Hugs and Kisses Full Steam Ahead! (Utah Family Photography)

First Hugs & Kisses portrait session today. M, it was a complete honor to meet your darling boys, and try to get them to laugh! I was so touched by the love these two obviously have for each other. The way your youngest kept sneaking in kisses - not just to annoy, but to show true affection for his brother - was just precious to witness. Thank you so much for the privilege. Like I told you earlier today, I will have an online gallery ready for you in about a week with all the images for you to choose from.

Also, it's not too late to sign up for Hugs & Kisses if you haven't already, and it's not too late to refer a friend to receive a complimentary 5x7 portrait! Call (801) 556-1661 before Feb. 5 to get a great deal on portraits for your Valentine (or yourself!)

Snowy Fun (Utah Child Photography)

Did some personal assignments with my favorite 4-year old model and some new little friends. Perfect location for snow photos - the ground was packed enough to walk on, and the trees were still frosty because they never really get direct light. The lighting was so great in the middle of the day, too. The kids were amazing troopers! Thanks, Brekke and Amber for a delightful afternoon, and for bringing your boys! I LOVE the image of the three of them together - what intrigue!

Had to post one more.

Here Comes the Smolder (Utah Child Photography)

These images are from my second Hugs n Kisses set. The black/reds are really great for either boys or girls. Blacks, reds, chocolate browns, and deep purple would all look great on this set. I still have some Hugs and Kisses sessions available.

The event runs from tomorrow (Jan 22) through February 5, and is only $39 for a studio session and your choice of either 20 Valentine bookmarks, 10 - 4x5 postcards with envelopes, or one medium resolution digital file emailed to you. Fantastic professional portraits for less than dinner and a movie! What a great Valentine gift for anyone you love. Call to reserve your session: (801) 556-1661.

ALSO: If you are registered for Hugs N Kisses, and you refer a friend who signs up too, you will receive a complimentary 5x7 portrait. This is a $39 value, and there is no limit to how many you can earn.

You never know when you might get suckered into being a KD Portraits model! Thanks S&A for stepping up between lightsaber duels and Legos. You guys are awesome.

Preserving Families Forever (Utah Family Photography)

I just wanted to express my thanks and sympathy for the C family this morning. I know we created this portrait expressly concerned about this day, but it still feels too soon. Your Dad will be remembered and loved, and I can't tell you how honored I am to have created this precious image.

Hugs and Kisses Valentine Set (Utah Child Photography)

Here's the first of two Hugs and Kisses sets I've created this year. This is the PINK! set that is very accommodating to any little princess's wardrobe. Bring in your props and dress-ups for one-of-a-kind Valentines. I always create my kids' class pass-out cards; they are so personal and fun, and the most unique in their classes. This set would also work well with pets! Don't forget the Hugs and Kisses event is only $39, and you get your portrait session, and your choice of either 20 Valentine bookmarks, 10 4x5 postcards with envelopes, or one image emailed to you so you can create your own Valentine masterpiece. Call today to schedule an appointment between Jan. 22 and Feb. 5: (801) 556-1661.

P.S. Special thanks to their Royal Highnesses Rapunzel and Aurora for gracing me with their presence this afternoon. What an honor to be able to create portraits for Royalty! We are going to have SO much fun designing these Valentines!
