A Priceless Gift (Utah Family Photography)

My best friend gave her mom a pretty cool birthday gift this year. She gave her a portrait session with each and all of her daughters. Even though this was a gift "for" her mom, I think the giving was really the other way around - this was an outstanding gift "from" her mom, allowing each of these precious relationships to be captured. I know as many women age, they get more and more self-conscious about having their portrait created. There are so many things that they think are important like weight, wrinkles, hair-do's, etc... In reality, our family sees us all the time with our imperfections, and they love us anyway. The documentation of these relationships is far more important than whether or not we feel like we belong on the cover of a magazine. I know a certain relationship in my own life from which I would love to create a portrait, and this experience has strengthened my resolve to do something about it. Thank you so much, ladies, for spending the evening in the Garden, and the good belly-laughs we had!

The KD Portraits Garden Event 2012 (Utah Child and Family Photography)

I am so lucky to have access to a beautiful and private garden. It has such gorgeous evening light! Kids are especially fun to photograph in this casual and barefoot environment.

The hollyhocks and daisies are just starting to bloom, the lilies are gorgeous right now, and in a few weeks the cone flowers and runner beans will be showing off.  Also, as August closes, the apple tree and table rock are always a favorite, and I'm hoping for a pretty cool pumpkin patch this year.

I am offering all custom portrait sessions in the garden for only $39 on weekday evenings (Mon-Thurs) in July and August.
Or, choose one of the following special print packages:

Traditional Package:
(for individuals only)
One 15 minute session,
One 8x10 portrait, two 5x7 portraits, and 8 wallets (all from the same pose)
$49 (compare at $215)

Mini Portrait Package
(for small groups or individuals)
One 30 minute session,
Two 8x10 portraits, and one 11x14 mounted textured portrait
$129 (compare at $246)

Custom Portrait Package
(for small groups or individuals)
One 45 minute session,
and either Five 8x10 portraits *or*
One 16x20 mounted textured portrait with Two 8x10 portraits
$199 (Compare at $352)

This is the perfect opportunity for you to have your child's yearly "back-to-school" portrait created in a stunning setting by a Master photographer, rather than the assembly line studio that you know is coming soon to a school near you.
Please note that I will NOT be offering printable digital files on CD this year. I am taking a stand on an issue that I feel very strongly about - the importance of the printed portrait. More to come on that soapbox later. Please call if you have any questions, or to schedule your portrait session: (801) 556-1661)

Noemie and Jerome - Moutier Switzerland Wedding

When I did my first Swiss wedding four years ago, I had no idea it would be the start of so many friendships with a group of sincerely the most hospitable people in the world. I was so thrilled and honored to be invited to be the photographer for N&J this May, and I want to thank them again for the incredible experience. Stuff of dreams, people - stuff of dreams.

Lavender Call!!

I am now taking appointments for portraits in the Lavender fields in Mona, UT. Appointments are at sunset between July 10-13. This location is so stunning, and only available for 2 weeks every year. I only have four lavender sessions available this year - don't miss your chance to create an heirloom portrait in this crazy beautiful setting! (801) 556-1661.

Using the right light (Utah Senior Portraits)

When The Stunning Miss T here and I were talking on the phone to schedule her senior portraits, I told her I had found this amazing location, but that we would have to meet at about 5:00 am to get there for the ideal, pre-sunrise light. She didn't even hesitate and agreed to get up before any human should so we could make the most of the sweet natural illumination. Many times it's easier and more convinient to schedule a portrait session in the middle of the day when the light is harsh and contrasty - and sometimes it is necessary - and we do our best to make the most of the light that is available (the last two images were in full sun later in the morning.) However, I have found that my very best work is the stuff that happens just before sunrise and just after sunset. You may consider this when thinking about your next portrait session...

Oh, and how absolutely fabulous is she? I mean REALLY? I can't believe you are graduating and moving into adulthood, T. You were just a little girl the first time you came in front of my lens. *Sniff* I'll stop being weepy now, I promise...
