Limited Resources

You know, sometimes I get so frustrated that I don't have unlimited resources available (aka time and money) to be able to be completely unhindered in my quest for creativity. I know I've expressed my desire to have a "real" studio before. The time I long for it the most is in the winter with large family groups. I've photographed people in their own homes, in the snow, at the City Hall... it just never really works right. The best solution that I've found is to photograph smaller groups in my limited home studio and digitally composite them together. It actually works pretty well! The best part about it is that I can focus on fewer people at a time, and so I get better expressions and can pay more attention to detail. The families I've worked with this way seem to be more relaxed and enjoy the experience more, too. It's really not a bad way to capture a large group. So limited resources or not, I feel like this was a great session! Thanks, W family for being so willing to trudge through the snow and trust my artistic vision!

Thank you Kris. I think it turned out great. You may have to photoshop some of the families back together though if they want a single family portrait, since some of each family was in our original shot. Thanks for the great work.

I thought it was amazing that for such a big group, everyone seemed to be looking in the same direction and smiling. Then I found out about using Photoshop and it all made sense! Great picture!

Not only is that a wonderful picture, but what an amazing way of taking a large family photo. Technology is making life so easier for all of us.
