Today was this little guy's 2nd birthday. How amazing is his mom to schedule his portraits on his birthday? Man, this squirt was SO CUTE, and his parents were so great to work with: easy-going, relaxed, happy, and they even appeared to be having fun. It was a great day, K, thanks so much for the privilege!
I wasn't going to get all technical on this post, but I'm so pleased with the result, I just gotta ramble some jargon! I usually use either daylight or studio strobes in my home studio, but today I decided to uses a mix of both. When shooting kids (especially a two-year-old), you have to have a faster shutter speed, and because of the cloud-cover, I just wasn't getting enough light through the window. I set up one light to act as a main-light booster and my second was on fill-duty. It worked great! I still got those awesome catchlights and buttery-soft light-to-shadow-gradations that I love my window for, AND I was able to maintain a fairly high shutter speed. *blah* *blah* *blah* Ok, enough geek-speak. I just get totally excited about stuff like this.
I have to post this one more.
