The First Ten Years

This May marks the 10th anniversary of my photography business. I started in May of 1998 with a senior portrait. I was using 35mm film in a camera I bought used from Crossroads Mall, and trying to earn enough money to pay for my school expenses. I had to develop and print about four rolls of film a week just for my class assignments, and that didn't count what I was shooting on my own. It was expensive! I distinctly remember one of my professors at the end of my senior year at the University of Utah tell me and my classmates that in 5 years only 5% of us would still be doing photography for a living. Ten years later, I really wish I could find that professor and tell him how fortunate I have been to continue doing what I love. Making portraits is really more than a job for me. It is my passion! I honestly can't sleep sometimes because I'm thinking about my up-coming session, or print competition, or that family down the street who hasn't had a family portrait created for seven years. This is what I dream about!

In appreciation and celebration of the last ten years, I am launching the May Anniversary Event! Here's what this awesome Event will include:
  • Valid the month of May only, I am offering 10 sessions for $10! You will save up to $190 just on the initial investment alone. This offer will expire after I book the first 10 sessions or May 31, which ever happens first.
  • In addition to this amazing offer, all portrait orders placed in May will receive 10% off! No exclusions, no fine print: all portraits, frames, custom greeting cards, Storyboard portraits, Highlights albums, and anything else ordered in May will be 10% off.
  • This is a blog and website only event. I will not be advertising this event in any other way, so you need to tell everyone you know about this offer! Direct them to the website or this blog for details, but don't let anyone be disappointed they missed it. Referral Certificates WILL be valid for the event, so if you need more, please let me know, and I will get you as many as you need.
  • At the end of May, I will draw a name for a $50 gift certificate to The Cheesecake Factory. To enter the drawing, all you need to do is post a comment on my blog between now and May 31 at 9:00 pm. Every comment you post gives you another chance in the drawing - just make sure you email me your contact information (name, address, phone number, and email address.) so I can notify you when you win: kris@kdportraits.com.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to live my dream and do what I love! You know that the people I photograph are "mine" and I cherish the friendships and associations this business has brought me. Here's to the next 10 years with you!

Congrats on the 10 year mark! Your pictures were good then too. How do you do it? It was one of those talents that I missed the line for I guess. My family is pretty excited to see what you can do!
